Chad Mendes: Conor McGregor owes me a rematch with a full camp under my belt

Chad Mendes will look to get back on the winning track when he takes on former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 22 on Dec. 11, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

More on that here.

For “Money,” a fight against “The Answer” is a chance to give fight fans a bout they’ve been yearning to see for quite some time. Plus, if he can get through the No. 2 ranked 135-pound fighter in the world, he could get back into the title hunt sooner, rather than later.

Check out what he had to say to “UFC Tonight” (via Bloody Elbow):

“You know, this is a fight that I know a lot of people have been wanting to see for a long time now. I’ve watched Frankie fight for a long time and he’s always a guy that, because of his size, I figured that as soon as I start working my way to the top of the division, as soon as he comes down we’re gonna be there together and the time is now – I’m excited for this fight man. Frankie, he’s a scrapper, I feel we kind of have similar styles. He’s the type of guy with great cardio who pushes the pace, uses his wrestling a lot and kinda mixes up his boxing with his wrestling.”

Mendes was last seen getting knocked out by interim Featherweight champion, Conor McGregor, in the main event of UFC 189 on July 11, 2015 (video replay here).

A fight he took on a few weeks notice after Jose Aldo was forced out with a rib injury. Though he put up a valiant effort on such short notice, Mendes ultimately fell short against “Notorious.” But with a full camp, “Money” is confident a second go-around will be different.

“I know it, he knows it, everybody knows it – you know, I go out there with a full camp destroy that guy 10 out of 10 times. Obviously going into that fight I’m gonna talk it up. You know ‘I’m in great shape, I’ve been training.’ Yea, I’ve been training and keeping a decent shape but there was no way you could ever be in a five round fight shape, you know, in two weeks. Like I said, he knows it, every body knows it – full camp I destroy that guy. He better not try to ditch out of this fight whether he wins or loses and try to go up to 155 or some stupid thing. You know, I feel like he owes me a rematch with a full fight camp, and err, let’s see if he’s man enough to do that.”

Edgar, on the other hand, is looking to get his own title shot with a win over Mendes, as he’s been passed over one too many times for his liking.

It will be an interesting matchup, but who takes the cake, Mendes or Edgar?
